Hooper to Newcastle.
NEWCASTLE are lining up a £5million January swoop for Celtic striker Gary Hooper.
SunSport understands Magpies boss Alan Pardew has been tracking Hooper since the start of the season.
He plans to continue keeping tabs on the prolific hitman as he prepares to make a bumper bid when the transfer window opens in the New Year.
Pardew is desperate to splash out on a new striker and 23-year-old Hooper is top of his list of potential targets.
The Geordies have started the Premiership season magnificently and are currently fourth.
But Pardew was angry at being unable to reinvest some of the near £40m raised through the summer sales of Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan on a proven frontman.
He has had to settle for using Senegalese hitman Demba Ba — a free from West Ham — and Leon Best, who had previously toiled at St James' Park.
The duo have made surprisingly decent impacts, with Ba netting four goals and Best one behind.
But Pardew is anxious to bring in another frontman and has his sights set on Hooper.
The striker has been a hit at Parkhead since a £2.4m move from Scunthorpe United in July of last year.
Hooper netted 23 goals last season and has found the net five times already this term.

£7million and they can have him.
£2.5million isn't really that huge a profit on him - I would have the £4m on hinm thiough

If a team offers £20 you say no. NEVER accept a first bid.

5 million is a insult to be honest. 10 million and you can have him. Better than some of there players they have.
